Candidate for Hamilton County Surveyor

Please Describe Your Education?  Bachelors of Science - Civil Engineering - Norwich University; Master of Science - Civil Engineering - Purdue University

What is your Occupation and/or Professional Background?  I am a Professional Engineer, obtaining my license in 1999, with a broad and diverse background that includes 10-years as a consulting engineer and project manager, 11-years as the Assistant City Engineer in the City of Carmel, and 9-years as the Staff Engineer in the Hamilton County Surveyor’s Office.

What is your Candidate Platform?  Knowledge, Experience, and Ability.

I have extensive knowledge of drainage, including agricultural drainage, all types of public project development, budgeting, funding, design, construction, and project management which allows me to make cost effective decisions regarding drainage infrastructure.

My 20-years of experience with the City of Carmel and the County has allowed me to develop strong relationships with the development community, a thorough understanding of planning and zoning, extensive experience with ordinance development and enforcement, experience in responding to and investigating drainage complaints and developing resolutions, and development of customer service skills.

While not an official position, I also act as the Deputy Surveyor in the absence of the current Surveyor. This has allowed me to learn and understand all aspects of the position, work with each member of the staff, work with other elected officials and department heads, and given me the ability to be the next County Surveyor.

Please provide THREE reasons why voters should consider you this election?

Continuity. The duties of the Surveyor must keep pace with the tremendous growth of the County and cannot suffer “on-the-job” learning. The next Surveyor must be able to assume the responsibilities of the office immediately so that there is no gap in service. I believe that I am the only candidate with the requisite knowledge, experience, and ability to assume the responsibilities of the office on the first day.

Relationships. I have existing relationships with developers, the business community, the other cities and towns in the County, and our agricultural industry that I have built over the last 20-years.

Community. I believe in building great communities and have enjoyed being a part of the incredible growth of the County since 2004. I know that there is more to be done and I want to lead the Surveyor’s Office as it continues to play a vital role in making Hamilton County an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Is there anything else you’d like voters to know about you?  I am 53-years old. I live in Carmel with my wife Rachel who is a gradate of Purdue University and a Professional Engineer. We have two sons. A graduate of Ball State and a sophomore at Purdue.
